OUR HISTORY
MotoRRetro is a partnership between Vaughan Ryan and Georgio Rimi. We met as apprentices studying panelbeating and coach building at Ultimo TAFE, Sydney in 1989, and were constantly vying for pole position in class. While at TAFE Georgio won a coveted spot in the NSW TAFE smash repair team at Bathurst in 1991. Vaughan won first in state at the NSW apprenticeship awards in 1989 and 1990. Despite our competitiveness, we became good friends with an passion for metalworking, classic cars (and bikes), restoration and customising that’s made us who we are today.
THE MOTORRETRO TEAM
Vaughan Ryan
Vaughan originally started his panelbeating and coachbulding apprenticeship in 1989; but his family has a long and proud history of building and racing cars. His main interests include building and creating motorcycles and cars, customising, restoring original and rare classics, and restomods.
Georgio Rimi
Obsessed with how things work, Georgio learned to put them back together after he pulled them apart. He restored his first car in high school. With over 30 years experience, he’s also been part of pro racing car teams. He’s inspired by racing and classic cars and has a long list of personal restoration projects.
Tots
Tots had previously worked and trained with Vaughan in 1996. Then in 2017, he started to work at MotoRRetro full time with Vaughan and Georgio after a short period away from the industry. He specialises in welding and lead wiping.
Mark
Mark joined the MotoRRetro team in late 2018. He started working on cars at the age of 13, when he bought and restored his first ever cars: a Morris Minor and then a Fiat 500. He specialises in attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Skylan
Skylan is now in the second year of his panelbeating apprenticeship. He joined MotoRRetro straight after high school and grew up around Toyotas – which he blames his dad for – but these days he drives classics. He’s showing great potential with his welding skills.
From the age of 18, Simon Leake dreamed of owning his very own Vincent Black Shadow motorcycle. Now in his 60s, he’s had the opportunity to do just that.
This is a video we shot a few years ago with our mate John Ward from Fuel Bespoke Design that features his immaculate, early 1970s BMW 2800 CS with an E46 M3 under the bonnet. It’s well worth a watch.
We were recently lucky enough to have world-renown bike builder and customiser, Christian Sosa, in our shop to hold a few metal working masterclasses. Here’s a little piece we put together on the whole experience.
