Most of us would count ourselves as lucky if we had the time and the money to restore one classic sports car, but thanks to a successful business, MotoRRetro customer Tim is currently undertaking the process with not one but two classics; namely two 240Z Datsun Nissans.
Tim was gracious enough to allow us to shoot and publish a few photos of the twin works-in-progress one night a few weeks ago. Here’s the results of the shoot; the car you see here is his Datsun 240Z Series 2 but if you look closely in the background you’ll also see his Series 1.
The history of the Datsun 240Z is an interesting. Following on from Toyota’s famous 2000GT in the last 1960s, Datsun realised the potential for a two-door Japanese sports coupe that was aimed more at the average western consumer rather than something only the rich could afford.
And rather than using their JDM Skyline platform, the Nissan team went with an all new design with decidedly more classic, more European looks – just like Toyota did in the mid 1960s. And in late 1969, the results were finally shown to the public.
Tim’s work with us here at MotoRRetro Sydney included much of our usual services, including metal shaping, MIG & TIG welding, car body restoration, car customising, bodybuilding, metal-shaping, panel beating, and professional restoration.
We helped him repair and rebuild many parts of the cars, including new sheet metal floors, rails, 1/4 panels, rear guards, chassis straightening, and even some reworking of older repairs that weren’t up to scratch. All this saw the cars leave our shop for paint in better-than-OEM condition.
Watch this space for progress reports and some final photos of both these amazing vehicles. And if you have a classic car or motorcycle that you would like restored, repaired or customised, feel free to reach out to us for a chat and an appraisal.
